This is just stupid

I think people should have equal say and I also believe in fairness and equal rights. Although, I am always surprised when we try to push society forward in being tolerant and peacefull and religious groups try to push society backwards.

The link below is to an article on MSNBC about a Christian Activist group going after Ford Motor Company because "the company which has done the most to affirm and promote the homosexual lifestyle". To me, this seems like the same mentallity of people who wouldn't let go of segregation. That's just my opinion.

While, I'm at it, I have to state the obvious. If Christians are supposed to believe that homosexuality is so wrong that we must stand up against it, then why not stand up against other real "crimes". Being gay seems like the least of all sins if you ask me. What are murder, theft, spousal abuse, drug addiction, etc.? Why are these groups wasting so much time and energy on gay people?

I think it is because they are an easy target. Most gay people I think want to live normal lives, unless they feel like their rights are being trampled on. Why not tackle violence in the US? Probably because that is too dangerous. I still have a hard time seeing the exact line about homosexuality being a sin in the biblical text. There are lines about sodomy, but a report I saw about gay men in the US stated that a very small percent actually did that. The other larger percent performed in other ways. I would imagine that there are more heterosexual men sodomizing women (I can't believe I'm writing about this).

Anyways, I'm through writing about this. Let me know YOUR thoughts!!

I think everybody should stay out of everybody else's private lives. Period.

I agree with every word Jonathan. Helping 3rd world countries, preventing genocide, stopping murder, corporate scandal all takes a back seat to this topic. Its unbelievable.

I have to say... Things have degenerated so much that when the fact that someone mentions the fact that homosexuality is wrong and GOOD people who KNOW BETTER find it ANNOYING... I just get really concerned... Things are really spiraling down in this society and this world. Yes, hunger and all those other things listed are concerns and problems... but you've heard the saying that goes something like 'evil will grow if good men do nothing'. I know I didn't say it right, but the point is, there IS an ultimate moral standard... and it's found in the bible... and it's IS there... and the World is going to the crapper. It's 'anything goes' these days... so sad!! You want some specific scriptures? Here goes: How about Genesis 19. Also Romans 1--especially verses 24-28. Check out 1 Cor. 6:9 & 10... It's pretty plan how things are, but the way that society has gone... the lines have become so fuzzy... It's just like how the bible says that things will get in the LAST DAYS... Yeah, I sound like a crazy fanatic. Please don't blow me off... It's just that it IS plain in the bible how things should be... and if good men do or say nothing, evil will grow and prevail. These things need to be addressed. Yes, hunger, poverty, theft, deceipt etc. are issues that also need to be addressed, but why is it that some subjects have become the 'forbidden' subjects--if they're addressed then it's a 'hate crime'. No... It's wrong, and the truth has to be spoken. There ARE absolutes. It ISN'T 'anything goes' and the fact that everyone should just stay out of everyone else's business. Thank GOD that some people are speaking out. Because of people like that, God shows mercy and holds back his judgement on the evil that He can't look upon because He is HOLY. Thank God, that He has shown mercy, when we have thumbed our noses at Him so many times...
Yeah...I've said a mouthful... but the fact is... I have chosen to not be silent any longer. Yeah... This is anonymous, but at least I said something.

Great Post Jon! I have to say, this kind of *Self Rightousness* really bothers me. What did Jesus do? He was tolerant, he was compassionate, and we forget what he has asked of us: Feed the poor, take care of the widow, the fatherless, and visit the people in prison etc. He didn't say tell everyone that doesn't belive in me, they are going to HELL. I have never found it in the scriptures. It is so funny how people of the *world* ARE concerned with the more EVIL doings on this earth, while Christians/Believers waste their time and energy on attacking a cartoon like *Sponge Bob Square Pants*. You will know them by their fruits is what it says in Galatians. In other words, be an example. Words are empty when action does not follow. And what was God's greatest example...LOVE. And that is what we should be spreading...LOVE. That will change a man/woman. We can't change people...but GOD can, he is the only one that can. We aren't going to effect change in a world if we keep saying the other half is wrong and we are RIGHT! Live Justly, Show Mercy, and Walk Humbly with you GOD! That is what it says in Micah. I am not saying that homosexuality is right/wrong...that is an issue I have to resolve with in myself. But I believe everyone should have basic human rights and should be able to live in peace. I don't think God is ready to send us ALL to hell. I think GOD is more understanding than we can possibly phathom. Here is a quote that I live by: "Do not be too moral. You may cheat yourself out of much life. Instead, aim above morality. Be not simply good; be good for something". - Henry David Thoreau

Another thing I have heard believers say is that we should not worry about the environment. Jesus/GOD will restore it when HE comes. That is such an irresponsible thing to say. The earth is God's creation and we have not been good stewards of it! That is my battle....I try to be more resourceful when I think of future generations and my children growing up in a healthy and well environment. Anyway...there is my plug in. :)

I like posts that stir things up!! Well done Jon, well done.

Wow! I haven't had this much activity on my blog since... uh... never. Anyways, I appreciate the comments. That's what I wanted to see. And to reiterate, I am not really here to judge the gay community. Again, I just think a lot of effort goes into fighting them, as though they are a force of "evil" that wants to turn everybody gay or whatever people are afraid of. Although, from my understanding, if a person believes that homosexuality is a sin, then they would also believe that lying, cheating, drunkeness, etc. are sins too. Everybody is guilty of some sin. Why do we judge the gay community so hard? I've seen the church be a lot more tolerant and loving to wife beaters. Why is that? Just wondering.

All right since we like fire I might as well add more fuel to it. Let the flaming begin!

Not trying to be a smart ass or anything but does the bible list an order of importance when it comes to fighting causes?

Thats my problem with this situation. Personal relations are at the forefront while these other situations are an afterthought. Which one affects the most people in a negative manner? I don't see any gay clans running around beating people or starting false wars do you?

Anti-gay sentiment is just a ploy to bend people a certain way. Want proof? Take a look at the last election. Look at how many states had anti-gay measures on the ballot to get people riled up to vote. I wonder how many were swing states. Its a ploy and it working very well, sorry to say. People are starting to forget that this is the United States of America and not the United States of the Bible. Freedom, liberty and democracy are the standards. Am I some devil follower? No, I believe in God but hey I'm also in the same religion that elected a nazi for pope. Go figure.
